Greening of the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum

ARCHITECT: Perkins + Will

Three years after opening, a project was undertaken to “Green” the Nature Museum. Green roofs were added to the majority of the existing roof areas; intricate vine walls were added along the full length of two prominent building elevations; and a stone wall was added at the south corner. The vine walls utilized tension cables, stainless steel outriggers off the existing building, and new pier foundations at the base. The stone wall incorporated full-sized boulders, which necessitated foundation additions.
